I haven't been doing a lot of sewing since finishing Christmas gifts, but I did finish up this coat, which has been half-finished for a while. I am really pleased with how this turned out. Perfect? Of course not. I could show you detail shots of every mistake, but I'm not going to do that. On the whole, I'm really happy with this. :-)
The pattern is the Pepernoot Hooded Coat pattern by Waffle Patterns. I didn't really know anything about this company when I purchased the pattern, but the design is so cute, I had to give it a try. I found the instructions to be adequate. They don't walk you through every detail, so I might not recommend this for your first attempt at sewing a wool coat, but they were alright.
There is plenty of ease in this pattern for a thick sweater. I want to make a lighter jacket version, and I will take out some of the ease in the body.
I went with white zippers to add a little spice to the coat. The fabric is a medium-weight wool coating from Pennie Fabrics in Sarasota. This is the perfect lightweight coat for here. The hood is really nicely drafted. It lays beautifully when down...
and stays up nicely, too.
The zippered patch pockets attracted me to the pattern. They are really unique. The sleeve tabs are a nice detail, also.
I added a fun pink print lining. The lining fabric is from Gorgeous Fabrics.
